Mini rockets with an animated flame, and a window that glows red, blue or purple. Here is how to get them flying.
Quick start
- Unlock. During shipping the button may be in “lights-out” mode so they can’t switch on by accident. Plug the earrings into any USB-C charger and they unlock.
- Charge them with a USB-C cable.
- Press the small button on the back to wake them up. Each further press moves to the next mode. Hold the button for 3 seconds to put them to sleep.
If a press does nothing, the rockets are either locked or out of power: plug them in to fix both.
Modes and run time
There are 10 modes. The number of lit LEDs in the flame shows how much power the current mode uses, so you can tell how long it will last.
| Power | Runs for about | LEDs lit | Modes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 24 hours | 1 | Solo flame; Purple window; Red window; Blue window |
| Medium | 10 hours | 2 | Flame and purple window; Flame and red window; Flame and blue window |
| Medium | 5 hours | 3 | Dim flame and purple window; Bright flame and purple window |
| High | under 1 hour | 4 | Full brightness |
About the power source
Your piece runs on a hybrid supercapacitor (a lithium-ion capacitor, or LIC) instead of a coin cell battery. It charges quickly, lasts for years, and is safer and more rugged than a rechargeable battery: it doesn’t catch fire or explode. If it is ever stressed too much, it simply vents a harmless puff of air through the top.
- A built-in backup charging system keeps current and voltage within the safe limits of the capacitor.
- Unlike regular supercapacitors, an LIC must stay above 2.5 V. Charge it fully before you store it for a long time.
- Keep it away from liquids and metal (conductive) objects. A fast discharge shortens its life.
- When you are done with it, recycle it with your normal household electronics. You do not need to take the capacitor out.
