Duonacci

Duonacci pendants combine math and engineering. The light patterns follow the Golden Angle and the Fibonacci numbers, driven by an efficient microcontroller and a supercapacitor.

Quick start

  1. Unlock. The button is locked during shipping. Connect the pendant to a USB-C charger to unlock it.
  2. Charge it with a USB-C cable.
  3. Click the button on the back to switch it on. Click again to change mode.

If a click does nothing, the button is locked or the capacitor is empty. Plug the pendant in.

Switching off and locking. Hold the button for 3 seconds for sleep mode (the LEDs in the menu blink). To lock the button again before storing or shipping, hold it while you unplug the charger cable.

Modes

Each click while the pendant is on moves to the next mode:

  1. Demo: patterns in a fixed sequence
  2. Random: patterns from a random sequence generator
  3. 120 BPM party: patterns change randomly at 120 beats per minute, good for house music
  4. Portal: spirals fade in and out in different colors
  5. Fibonacci number 8
  6. Fibonacci number 13
  7. Fibonacci wave: spirals move from 13 to 34 to 21 and back
  8. Fireworks

About the power source

Your piece runs on a hybrid supercapacitor (a lithium-ion capacitor, or LIC) instead of a coin cell battery. It charges quickly, lasts for years, and is safer and more rugged than a rechargeable battery: it doesn’t catch fire or explode. If it is ever stressed too much, it simply vents a harmless puff of air through the top.

  • A built-in backup charging system keeps current and voltage within the safe limits of the capacitor.
  • Unlike regular supercapacitors, an LIC must stay above 2.5 V. Charge it fully before you store it for a long time.
  • Keep it away from liquids and metal (conductive) objects. A fast discharge shortens its life.
  • When you are done with it, recycle it with your normal household electronics. You do not need to take the capacitor out.
